    GreenSlate Supports Farm Restoration Project

At GreenSlate, we believe that what is good for the environment can also be good for business. We are proud to put that belief into action through our support of organizations such as the Livestock Foundation.

The Livestock Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to preserving the rural traditions and communities of Delaware County, New York through programming that supports and encourages agricultural engagement and education. Since the 1980s, over 4,000 New York State farms have been eliminated due to real estate development, creating detrimental effects on the well-being of rural farming communities and compromising food, water, and soil security. As farms have vanished from the landscape of New York, their associated benefits, such as nutritious food, clean water, healthy soil, climate stability, and increased biodiversity, have disappeared as well.

Through GreenSlate’s contributions, the Livestock Foundation recently embarked on a new preservation project. This project includes the purchase and refurbishment of a 55-acre dairy farm in Bovina Center, NY, which has plans to open to visitors for monthly farm days beginning this July.

The venture promotes the benefits of small-scale sustainable farming in New York State. And the renovated farm, combined with the revitalization of a neighboring creamery and the future addition of a restaurant and inn, will simultaneously attract new tourism while honoring age-old traditions, demonstrating that there does not have to be a trade-off between economic and environmental progress.
